BARRIO BABIES 
        Susana Tubert (dir.) is accepting submissions for Barrio Babies, a musical about
        a Nuyorican playwright who is off to Hollywood to write a screenplay, commenting on the
        contemporary image of Latinos in America. Performances start Nov. 12 at the John Houseman
        Theatre in New York.  
         
        BREAKDWON: 
        Ray Reyes: Latino, 20s, sexy, smooth-talking, can play suave or street type, born and bred
        in New York's "El Barrio", cocky, driven, stubborn, vulnerable, sentimental,
        romantic, Spanish not so good;  
        Josie Lopez: Latina, 20s, grew up in "El Barrio", intense, passionate, good
        student, star of school plays, won scholarship to Royal Academy, warm, loyal friend,
        genuine;  
        Madelin Menendez: Latina, 20s, grew up in Miami, daughter of Cuban refugees, oversized
        work ethic, always dreamt of performing, perky, sexy, Goldie Hawn quality, sharp cookie,
        guileless innocence, understudy;  
        Lola Roldan: Latina, experienced, contemporary of Rita Moreno, tells great stories,
        married three times, born in Mexico City, screen idol and inspiration Dolores del Rio,
        understudy;  
        Oscar Garces: early 20s, born in E. L.A., TV small bit player, proud of it, played
        junkie, played cocaine-filled condom smuggler, Candide-like optimist, grateful;  
        Female: to cover Josie, Madelin, Lola, understudy;  
        Male: to cover Ray, Oscar understudy.
